Cell Phones For Soldiers Gets the Red Carpet Treatment

Grammy award-winning artist Stacy Ferguson, a.k.a. Fergie, held a star-studded holiday party at the Mondrian Hotel in Los Angeles last week to launch a new partnership between Cell Phones for Soldiers and Volí Vodka. Cell Phones for Soldiers co-founder Brittany Bergquist told us in a chat this week that CPFS is moved by the surge of support this late in the year. “It was great to see a lot of celebrities coming out to show support for Cell Phones for Soldiers,” she said. Five hundred thousand minutes of calling card time will be donated to Cell Phones for Soldiers through the new initiative.
Previously, Cell Phones for Soldiers raised $50,000 on Causes.com for an initiative launched through a joint effort with AT&T and the Connect For Good cause. The program is Helping Heroes Home, an initiative created to provide emergency funds for returning veterans to alleviate communication challenges as well as physical, emotional and assimilation hardships.
Through collective action, supporters of the Connect For Good cause came together and raised funds that provided Helping Heroes Home the ability to extend benefits to hundreds of struggling military veterans. Brittany told us it’s one of the defining successes for CPFS in 2012 and she hopes it means there’s more success to come. “When we think we may be losing traction or we may have saturated the market about letting people know about CPFS, something comes up and we’re reminded of what we can accomplish with this project,” she said.
Brittany, who started Cell Phones For Soldiers at the age of 13 with her brother Robbie Bergquist, will be graduating from college in 2013. She hopes to dedicate some more time to CPFS because “the work with Voli is the tip of the iceberg with what [Cell Phones for Soldiers] can accomplish. I know Robbie, my brother, is really excited, too.” Keep an eye on CPFS’ updates by visiting their cause or their website.
